The Mast Farm Inn Cookbook by Kay Philipp and Wanda Hinshaw (published August 1999) Contains recipes from the November 1999 Cooking Light feature article and more. $24.95 plus appl. tax and postage. (hardbound, spiral, 232 pp., incl. 16 full-color pages of the inn and its food) Before moving on to the "Foreword" of the cookbook, we wanted you to know that our plan for the cookbook this year is to provide an "Addendum" containing recipes from our current or recent seasonal menus. That's what everyone has been asking for, so in addition to getting some old favorites, you'll also get Matt's recipe for Crab Cheesecake (without having to beg for it) when you buy the cookbook. The "2003 Addendum" will be available in May. "Foreword" from The Mast Farm Inn Cookbook Wanda and Kay are different in many ways, but there are some similarities-for example, we both love good food. But while Wanda has had more experience as a gourmet cook, creating sauces and sumptuous dinners where everything goes together, Kay is more interested in trying new recipes and in baking-especially breads and cookies. Luckily for both of us, we are married to men who will happily eat anything they are served, and have never been known to complain about what's for dinner. Since we became innkeepers, the question is more likely to be "Is there dinner?" Putting this cookbook together has really evoked memories of those times when we both cooked all the time, and made us think about how our individual cooking styles evolved. And, to our families' delight, we have found ourselves cooking more during the process. We still love to do it! The recipes you will find here reflect our tastes, our families' traditions, and, of course, the menu of The Mast Farm Inn, whose kitchen is the domain of Scott Haulman, a talented North Carolina chef who is wise beyond his years. Recipes from the Inn kitchen are the ones most frequently requested by guests; we offer them for your enjoyment at home. Remember that at The Mast Farm Inn, as in our own kitchens, we use only the freshest ingredients, minimally processed, and as much as possible, organically and/or locally grown.
